Laura Trevail is a freelance artist and writer. She makes things that move about, and things that threaten to do so when they probably oughtn't.
Laura trained as an apprentice to Kneehigh Theatre before gaining a 1st class Honours Degree in Theatre and Visual Art at the University of Brighton. That was a long time ago.
More recent work includes projects with Barbara Steveni (including 3 major Steveni/Latham/APG events at the Tate Britain and in Edinburgh and Glasgow), COD dance (with whom she was nominated for a Dance Screen award), The Eden Project, Wildworks and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and a solo exhibition at Viewfinder Photography Gallery, Greenwich.
She is a founder member of The Society of Wonders, and has worked on every Society of Wonders live show, creating work for the National Review of Live Art, Duckie, Lovebox, The Museum of Childhood, Home Live Art, Feast on the Bridge, Arrivano Del Mare (Italy), The Shunt Vaults, The Oxo Tower, The V&A, South London Gallery and the Royal National Theatre.
Laura works regularly with SLGP, happy to get her hands mucky as production manager, or her brain mucky as a writer.
What we say about Laura:
If ever an artist epitimised why SLG benefits from promoting variety and diverse skills-sets over one style or approach, Laura is that artist. Having come onboard to stage managed our second show and production manage our third, Laura has since contributed poetry, stories and design creations to our sonnet walks, hallowe'en boat events and cabarets. She is currently writing a commissioned play for us, is the designer of our other main in-development project and has invited us to co-produce with her a set of alternative fete games that have entertained audiences and festival goers across London this year, culminating in their showcase at the National. And this Renaissance artist also co-created and delivers some of our most successfull workshops with the most challenging groups of young people.
Laura's breath of individuality of style and clarity of purpose have made her a hugely influential component in the SLG melting pot. Her active participation in the scary little community has shaped and enhanced it, to the benfit of all.
We are enormously grateful for her open-spirited attitude to our little hub and can't wait to see what she brings us next!
