Dirty Protest Theatre is a young, vibrant Welsh theatre company which specialises in putting established and brand new writers on the same stage.

Based in Cardiff Dirty Protest was founded by Bafta Cymru nominated writer Tim Price, journalist Claire Hill and director/assistant producer Catrin Rees in August 2007. Bored of stuffy theatre they wanted to see their peers at theatre nights and decided the only way to do that was to make plays more attractive to the MySpace generation. Picking up director/actress Mared Swain and production manager Ellie Carter on the way, they gave birth to a feisty little beast called Dirty Protest and ever since it has been drawing attention to itself, shaking up the arts world along the way.

The premise has always been simple. Put established AND wannabe writers on the same platform, give them a four week deadline, the same topic and challenge them to create exciting, new work. Then take it to the pubs and the clubs, invite as many people as you can find and, finally, party. If a new band can head to a dirty dive and start a riot, then so can a theatre night.

With the Dirty Directory bursting with collaborative artists, directors, actors and writers nearing fifty they have put on over 40 short plays since its birth at venues like the famous Milgi yurt, the Sherman, Welsh Millennium Centre, Clwb Ifor Bach and Latitude Festival. Not only have they enjoyed sell out success from their twice-nightly performances The Guardian called Dirty Protest "cracking" and The Big Issue "spellbinding".

They have begun by producing this excellent community network, please sign in to the National Theatre Wales community and join the debate. Being Welsh is not a prerequisite of getting involved with what's going on.

www.undebtheatre.co.uk

UndebTheatre is a newly founded theatre company based in Cardiff, dedicated to bringing quality work to new audiences.

Undeb started because the people behind the company were frustrated at the lack of theatre that spoke to them; to them the theatre around is expensive, irrelevant & boring. Theatre that they and their mates didn't want to go and see.  They wanted to create a night out where you can relax, drink, dance, chat & watch good theatre & comedy. For them it's all about the event, a lot of fun and good-time festival antics!

What we say about Eleanor:

Since working with us on our Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut in 2008, Ellie has quickly proved herself to be a vital Scary Little Girl.  'Above and beyond the call of duty' does not even begin to cover what Ellie gives: she is a powerhouse of energy, goodwill and ability that translates as any project she is involved with being both a tight ship and a finely crafted artistic machine.

Ellie helped us to take our work to summer festivals in 2009 and has started to embody the role of creative producer on some exciting new in-development projects.  Whether producing, hosting, stage managing or DJing at a Scary Little Girls event, Ellie unfailingly ratchets up the proceedings to startling new levels - and all with the biggest smile and kindest heart around.  A true feminista!
