Feast for the eyes (and ears)
Feast Cornwall funding will bring globally-successful Living Word Walks back to Cornwall
Feast Cornwall has announced that it will be helping bring a brand new arts project to the streets of Truro and St Austell this autumn.
Through their support, the towns will play host to a series of Living Word Walks, firstly in Truro on the 18th and 19th of September, and then in St Austell on the 25th and 26th of September. During a carefully planned walk around the towns, small groups will discover hidden architectural treasures and will enjoy unexpected encounters with professional actors who will regale them with Cornish prose, poetry and song.
Established in February 2009 to provide a platform for Cornish talent and artistic vision, Feast Cornwall has pioneered innovation and excellence, contributing to the success of many highly-regarded shows, carnivals and events, including work from Wild Works, Miracle and Kneehigh.
Now, thanks to their support, local production company Scary Little Girls will bring the streets of these two iconic Cornish towns alive with a rich blend of secret history and entertainment.
Employing a format originally commissioned by the Globe Theatre, Scary Little Girls have pioneered Living Word Walks, developing the genre and taking it to audiences throughout the UK and overseas. A specially commissioned walk - acknowledged as one of the highlights of this year's Du Maurier Festival in Fowey brought rave notices from audiences. One reviewer described it as "... a wonderfully informative walk around the town.... the journey was filled with delights and surprises every step of the way... the Living Word Walks will be remembered for a very long time to come!"
Founder of Scary Little Girls Rebecca Mordan says: "We are delighted to receive this financial backing from Feast. They have supported a huge spectrum of innovative, popular and high quality work and we feel privileged to have our walks acknowledged in this way.
"Their support will enable us to create a truly immersive experience for both locals and visitors alike."
Tickets for the Living Word Walks are now available from www.hallforcornwall.co.uk for Truro, and http://www.crbo.co.uk for St Austell. More information can be found on www.scarylittlegirls.co.uk. Information on Feast Cornwall and the projects it funds can be found on www.feastcornwall.org.
This Walk is funded by FEAST and we are jolly grateful to them!
FEAST
Making great art happen across Cornwall
FEAST is a programme to make great art happen in Cornish villages and towns. The ambition is to touch and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds and generate a whole new wave of creative activity in our communities. There will be new opportunities for more people to enjoy events as audiences, but the focus will be on taking part, bringing people together and on animating local celebrations and cultural life. FEAST will be a two year journey that harnesses the many talents of artists living and working in Cornwall. They will be firing imaginations and sparking inspirational events right across our rural region.
The investment for FEAST comes principally from Arts Council England and it is managed by the Cultural Services, Cornwall Council.
