WE (HEART) EARTH
In collaboration with activists from Climate Camp and Plane Stupid, in 2009 Scary Little Girls presented a Valentine's afternoon of films, songs, poems and storytelling at the Phoenix Cinema, Finchley, celebrating our love affair with planet earth. We ♥ Earth - love it or lose it!
This one day eco-film festival starts with a collection of work too radical for the mainstream. This is a rare opportunity to see a beautifully-crafted selection of shorts which use wit and skill to tackle some of the most complex and vital issues of our time. From a philosophical reflection on the problems of offsetting, via the medium of a spoof dating agency, to high-velocity polar bears and mutant bikes. These will be broken up with songs and storytelling by performers from Scary Little Girls Productions and the eco movement - a celebration of the creative and the fun side of eco-activism.
The second half of the afternoon shows the highly acclaimed Age of Stupid staring Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite. This film has been hailed by the Guardian as "The first successful dramatisation of climate change to reach the big screen" and by the Ecologist as "Fantastic - Knocks spots off An Inconvenient Truth". This moving and provocative film will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session to close the festival.
