As demand for SLGP's schools work has increased and our community projects have become increasingly prolific, the company has taken a bold step and officially developed the Scary Little Girls Association.
This charitable association has been specifically set up to allow us to pursue our social development and cultural entitlement projects within schools and the community more closely and with a dedicated team and management committee supporting the programmes.
To enable us to deliver the best in arts based workshops, the pool of artists used for the programmes comes directly from the talented industry professionals who work with SLGP in our productions. The artists we can engage to develop and deliver our bespoke programmes include actors, dancers, choreographers, singers, musicians, playwrights, poets, directors, designers, makers, digital film makers, sound artists, fine and contemporary artists, live artists, puppeteers, and popular music creatives.
To ensure that our work remains focused on the needs and ideas of those at whom we are aiming delivery, the Association has a broad base of support on its management committee. As well as heads of schools and leaders of the community, children, young people and older people feature on the committee, consulting on development and monitoring delivery.
SLG Association is particularly excited about the upcoming work they are currently developing for delivery in Cornwall, home to many of the artists and founding members of SLGP. A consortium of schools in the Penwith area are currently in consultation with Project Leaders from SLGA to run a series of after school clubs looking at drama, film making and making. As usual with our projects, the young people who will be attending the workshops will be in the forefront of the development process, choosing the medium of delivery, the themes that will be addressed and determining the outcomes that will be achieved.
We are committed to working in partnership with community groups and relish the communication and consultation that goes into devising a really successful project. Our partnership projects include:
- The summer 2006 play scheme and after school club with Rose Bowl youth club, which involved a creative project based on Shakespeare's The Tempest for younger members of the club and a multi media workshop on assertiveness for the young and teenage women at Rose Bowl;
- A 2005 drama project and presentation based on Homer's The Odyssey with Collage Park Special School and Beauchamp Lodge Floating Classroom that focused on positive body contact, achievement of individual and group objectives and building confidence and self-esteem conducted both in the school and on the Beauchamp canal boat;
- A 2004 programme of drama workshops developed for Centerpoint which used drama and art to build assertiveness and help with anger management and conscious decision making.
