A Scary Little Girls Domestic Violence Best Practice Package for Teaching Staff and Years 1, 2, 3 & 4
Scary Little Girls recognise that domestic violence accounts for almost a quarter of all violent crime. When this takes place in a family home, 90% of the time the children are either present or in the next room. Young people who are living with domestic violence can exhibit behavioural problems at school and suffer loss of attention during lessons. We also recognise the pressure this puts onto schools.
That is why we have developed a project for schools about best practice in dealing with domestic violence. Our programme is based on the work pioneered by such groups as the Westminster Domestic Violence Forum and Woman Kind Worldwide.
This project aims to provide a whole school approach to the issue of Domestic Violence. It provides a training session for teachers to help the school develop a Best Practice Policy around dealing with DV. It also provides three workshop sessions with an actor and puppeteer for Years 1, 2 and 3.
These sessions explore the dynamics of relationships between friends and encourage positive behaviour, empathy and conflict resolution.
The Puppet Project includes:
Training for teachers – Week One
Meet the puppets – Week Two
Make the puppets – Week Three
Bring the puppets to life – Week Four
