Make the puppets

The Puppet Project: Week Three
Workshop leaders: 2
Participants: 30
Location: Classroom
Duration: 2 hours (with a break)

In this session the workshop leaders help the children to make their own simple puppets, allowing them to explore their creativity and invest in making a character of their own. This promotes self esteem and creative choice and helps the children to form bonds with their creations, building empathy and individuality.

This session meets Key Stage 1 Teaching Requirements in the following ways:

Art and Design, Investigating materials
Enabling children to investigate the possibilities of a range of materials and processes; experiment with papers and fabrics and create different effects; to ask and answer questions about the starting points for their work, and develop their ideas; identify and describe textures, colours and patterns in textiles; to describe their feelings about a fabric they like; to sort fabrics by colours and textures and describe their ideas and feelings about them.

Art and Design, What a performance
Enabling children to understand about visual and tactile elements and how these elements can be combined and organised for different purposes; to question and make thoughtful observations about starting points and select ideas to use in their work; select appropriate visual and other information to help them develop ideas for their designs; to apply their experience of materials and processes, developing their control of tools and techniques; to investigate and combine visual and tactile qualities of materials and processes and to match these qualities to the purpose of the work; to adapt their work according to their views.
