Meet the puppets

After some warm up and focus games, this session uses a puppeteer and a workshop facilitator to bring to life the characters of Fifi the Fairy and Jaffa the Monkey. Through meeting these characters, interacting with them and helping them to make friends when they fall out, relationships and conflicts are explored with the children.

This session is key in developing empathy and moving away from stereotypes of “goodies” and “baddies” in an argument. It also allows children to discuss what makes and builds strong, nurturing relationships and encourages positive behaviour. This session meets Key Stage 1 Teaching Requirements in the following ways:

Citizenship, Working Together

Enabling children to take turns in discussions and take different views into account; to offer ideas in a group, and agree on a simple response as a group; to develop skills of discussion, negotiation and cooperation in a group; to express opinions about a real-life issue; to recognise that there can be conflicting views and a need to compromise when making a decision.

Years 3 & 4
Make suggestions for dealing with a real-life issue, and cooperate with others in a group to reach a resolution.

Citizenship, Making Choices
Years 1 & 2
About choices that they can make in solving problems; to use drama to explore ways of dealing with issues.

Citizenship, Moving On
